Black Box Explains... Fast Ethernet Islands
Fast Ethernet islands.
Some workgroups—CAD/CAM, desktop publishing, engineering, etc.—demand more speed. But a complete network upgrade and overhaul is expensive and usually unnecessary. The solution: Create 100-Mbps Fast Ethernet islands in your 10-Mbps Ethernet LAN.
Until now, there hasnt been an easy way to maintain existing network operations while upgrading selected workgroups to 100 Mbps. But this Fast Ethernet island system gives you a plug-and-play solution for adding a group of 100-Mbps users into a 10-Mbps network. Heres how:
1. First, make sure your targeted 100-Mbps users have 10/100 NICs ready and you have Category 5 cable for your 100-Mbps connections.
2. Set up your 100-Mbps workgroups with the Dual-Speed 10/100 Stackable Hub (LH8000A, LH8016A).
3. Connect the hub to the Two-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch (LB9800A–LB9804A).
4. Make the final switch to 100-Mbps LAN connection.
Thats it. And because the switch is plug-and-play, youre ready to go.
