The Past
1976
Expandor, Inc. opens for business, selling connectivity devices, the little black boxes
that clients need to connect their primary data communications products.
1977
The first BLACK BOX® Catalogue rolls off the presses. It has six pages,
contains nine products, and generates $170,000 in sales.
1978
Product requests come in from around the world, and the company establishes the first of
many international partnerships in Canada.
1982
The company changes its name to Black Box. In recognition of outstanding export trade, Black Box earns the U.S. President’s E Award.
1987
In recognition of continued outstanding export trade, Black Box earns the U.S. President’s E Star Award.
1988
Black Box commence operation in Australia and New Zealand.
1992
Black Box goes public.
1994
Black Box goes on-line and within the first two weeks, visitors from 36 companies visit
the site.
1998
Black Box offers its first on-site data/infrastructure services in the Pittsburgh, PA
area. Later that year, Black Box expands its on-site offerings to Florida.
1999
Black Box begins offering on-site data/infrastructure services in the United Kingdom. On-site services then quickly
expand throughout Europe and the Pacific Rim. Black Box is named one of the 200 Best Small Companies in America
by Forbes. A new state-of-the-art distribution center opens at the Company’s headquarters in Lawrence, PA.
2000
On-site capabilities expand to include telephony services.
2001
The BLACK BOX® Catalogue grows to 1488 pages.
2002
BusinessWeek recognizes Black Box as one of the Best 100 Small Companies.
2003
The number of Team Members hits 3000.
2004
Black Box wins Catalogue of the Year at the Multichannel Merchant awards.
2005
Black Box wins Catalogue of the Year at the Multichannel Merchant awards for the
second consecutive year. The product mix grows, and the company now offers more than 118,000 products in its
catalogs and on-line. Black Box acquires Norstan, Inc.; Converged Solutions Group, LLC; and Communication is
World Interactive Networking, Inc.
2006
Black Box acquires the USA Commercial and Government, and Canadian Operations of NextiraOne,
LLC, as well as Nu-Vision Technologies, LLC and Nortech Telecommunications Inc.
2007
A new 24/7/365 Technical Support Call Centre opens in Murfreesboro, TN. Black Box wins Catalogue of the Year at the Multichannel Merchant awards for an
unprecedented third time in four years. Black Box exceeds the $1 billion revenue mark. Black Box acquires ADS Telecom, Inc.; B&C Telephone, Inc.
2008
Black Box acquires AT&T’s Southeast Region NEC CPE Base; UCI Communications, LLC;
and Mutual
Telecom Services Inc.
2008
Black Box Australia relocates to new facilities in Scoresby, Victoria.
